west coast [22 Jun 2010|01:15am]
[ mood | antisocial ]

oh the trail...
the 80 km obstacle course

ladders
cliffs
suspension bridges

6 of us
7 nights
8 days

no booze, no drugs. just eachother amoungst the impenetrable forest
and OCEAN

someone picked up a book at the last minute of adventure stories of the west coast.
the west coast trail used to be called the 'graveyard of the pacific'
(shipwrecks)
everynight i read a story around the campfire
about some crazy dramatic deadly event that had happened on that very beach we were sleeping on

the best thing i have ever done in my whole life

no rain
sunburns

showers under waterfalls

grey whales
sea lions
bears
bear cubs
bald eagles every day

the hardest part was carrying the packs.
boulder hopping on slippery moss
20 ft drops

oatmeal
lentils
nut mix

falling asleep to the ocean
and next to my love love love
i could have just said something

waking up and eating all together

looking out for eachother

meditation

high tide
low tide

a sweet embrace

time to get up guys

been so antisocial since being back
i need to figure out my next move

good news blahg [22 Oct 2009|12:14am]
Today was the last day of the summer farmers market by my house. It was a big highlight of my summer after returning from europe, to go to this humble little market every wednesday and pick up my cheap-ish organic local veggies for the week. It wasnt anything impressive...about 10 to 12 stands... but it was just so convenient and the produce was such high quality. And I loved how things changed as the season progressed...
I am really going to miss it. Im really turned off by grocery stores at the moment. It doesnt seem like real food. It isnt real food. The fact that i can still get blueberries is weird.

I have 99% of my halloween costume put together, and I am so fucking excited. I am going to be an albino bunny. I even got red eye contacts for it. This is the most important part of the costume, as i didn't want to go as just a white bunny. I am going to paint my face all crazy. I hope to look cute and innocent from afar, but when you get a look at my face it'll be like fuckin crazy demon staring at you. I got a sweet vest made from white rabbit fur which totally makes it lovely and i will most likely wear the vest regularly. As for where i'm gunna rock this getup... still undecided. I know that i have to "work", and my friend and i were going to throw a party at the templeton... keep it open to the public but invite friends and have drink specials and take pictures. But i feel like my costume will be a bit too elaborate and uncomfortable to attempt working in. afterwards, black mountain is playing or a dubstep rave. maybe both.or neither.

love am-bee

coffee+baileys+work = late afternoon crash+late night energy boost [13 Oct 2009|12:28am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

thing i saw last night:

-dude sitting on a bench wearing a cardboard box. the only body parts visible were from his knees down, as the flaps covered his thighs.

SO thanksgiving used to be a big crazy event. for 16 years of my life we would pile our family, pets and coolers full of food into our car and drive 4 hours north to our cottage near haliburton. we would then unpack everything and start cooking. saturday was always reserved for hiking BLUEBERRY mountain, to see all the beautiful ontario fall colours. sunday was the big feast. monday was an insane clean up day as we had to prep the cottage for the winter, the drive 4 hours home. aunts uncles, cousins, grandparents distant relatives, friends... all there. this is when our cottage still didnt have a phone or drinkable water. it was such an amazing tradition.

since being on my own my thanksgivings have been pretty makeshift but still amazing. one year i remember having a wholesome homecooked thanksgiving dinner with my landlord that lived below us over wine and joints. last year we had a feast of sushi and salad. this year i was cooked a lovely indian meal on the patio overlooking english bay, the city and mountains...
tradition has been lost but its still my favourite holiday

all right baby girll [09 Oct 2009|02:16am]
[ mood | jealous ]

tings i saw today:

-five baby raccoons in a tree outside my bedroom window when i awoke. they were all staring at me !

-the most beautiful man ever ever ever ever ever i can even believe he exists kind of beauty. at the templeton and a complete sweet heart customer to top it off. i am still blushing. to bad he was with a girl. funny that the girl walked in on me while i was in the washroom though.

-creepy man get swarmed and attacked by 7 police officers outside the astoria.

so i walked into the washroom at my school today and got an overwhelming smell of roast beef. it was so disorientating and made me think of smells and smelling in a whole new light.

Things I saw yesterday:

-gross camel Toe

-followed hours later by a picture of someones tattoo of a camel on the their toe. I dont understand why you would want to reference that on your body for any amount of time let alone permanently. Like when people who dont know what camel toe ask you what it means you're seriously going to be like "Oh you know when girls wear really tight bottoms and you can see the shape of their vagina? well it kinda looks like a camel toe, so i thought it would be cool to get a camel on my toe! get it?..."

-red and orange calli lillys

-old man passed out on the street with no shirt on exposing his pregnant belly. he was staring at it and smacking it and looking like he was having a good time

So Vancouver is in a really visually interesting state right now... After being under construction for approximately 4 years, things are getting finished and unveiled. It is crazy for me because I just got used to things being construction sites, and now they are fully functioning buildings and streets. After the Canada line opened (subway that goes from the airport to downtown), I really realized how it was going to change the city. Cambie street (at broadway) used to be boring abyss with few shitty restaurants and a canadian tire. on the bus,, no one would get on or off. Now it is the busiest stop and there are all these new stores and shopping and parks and what have you. Its like a whole new neighbourhood just popped up outta nowhere and its so brand new, people kinda walk around with a look on their face like "is this real"? Granville Street, the main "drag" downtown is like 85% being done... 6 months ago there were no sidewalks and it was continually reffered to as RR #2 vancouver cause it was gravel road but with neon signs and high rises. So weird. The olympic village is almost done too, and it has altered a part of the waterfront area completely. So many different areas of the city have been re-done and i saw it from the beginning, and now i live in this ultra modern slick "clean" city. obviously there are places that haven't been touched but for the most part something has changed. As i finish my degree and this "phase" of my life, I like to look at all this construction as a metaphor for my time spent here. I too was under construction in my own way and its starting to pay off. As much as I thought the city construction was annoying and a pain in the ass and ugly , it obviously was meant to improve something, and the same can be applied to myself. Continuous change is so inspiring!

dear emily carr security,

For the past 3 years i have had different security guards monitoring my studio space. Each year a whole different host of awkward encounters occurs, but this year seems to be the worst. Just because I am here 12 hours a day doesnt mean its to talk to you. I dont appreciate you tapping me on the shoulder to ask me what i am drawing. I dont like telling you what I am listening to. I feel you watching me when i am facing the other way. I understand your job and why we have to employ you, and I also understand that your job must suck. however i have a hard time sympathizing with you when you are so incredibly annoying that i wish that I or you were invisible. Im sorry im a bitch but please leave me alone.

in passing [15 Mar 2009|06:14pm]
[ mood | apathetic ]

so in talkin with a friend i have realized that i hold so much attachment to this city because its the only place i have lived besides palmerston
the first place you move to is like the first place you really live or something
this attachment has grown into more of a nag or a leash however
every day i find another reason to leave
and these thoughts are completely foreign to me having been quite fulfilled for almost 4 years
i am going to europe for 2 months commencing may 14th
where i will return to i dont know
